MMP Quantity Surveyors

Health & Safety Legislation & Quantity Surveyor Services

When it comes to selecting and working with a quantity surveyor on a significant commercial project, clients are naturally interested in any relevant experience that the quantity surveyor may have and of course the price – the bottom line is always a key consideration. But a strong track record in terms of Health & Safety is worth looking into also as you’ll want to work with a firm  surveyor that has a proven performance in this respect. And it’s not just a question of integrity, there are stringent legal requirements that need to be adhered to.

The Safety Health and Welfare at Work (Construction) Regulations 2013

There is a huge volume of occupational and environmental health and safety legislation that need to be complied with but these regulations are probably some of the more important ones to be addressed. We’ve outlined a summary of this legislation here but two key stages in a project that it identifies include the Design Process and the Construction Stage. It requires that a competent Project Supervisor is appointed for both stages. The Project Supervisor for the Design Process (PSDP) needs to be supplied with a Safety and Health Plan and the appointee needs to be notified to the Health and Safety Authority. The legislation goes on to outline the duties of the PSDP.

MMP recognised the growing complexity of compliance with all the relevant legislation some time ago and in 1997 we established MMP Health and Safety Ltd. We are hugely experienced in acting as the Project Supervisor Design Process (PSDP) and we have also operated as the Project Supervisor Construction Stage (PSCS) on certain projects.

We have developed an online platform for clients so that compliance can be managed, met and proven on all projects where we have a PSDP or PSCS role. This is a huge benefit to those both keen to operate to the highest standards in this respect and who also want to be seen to do so if necessary.

MMP Health & Safety Ltd. is a member of the National Irish Safety Organisation (NISO) and is accredited with OHSAS 15001.

Construction Dispute Resolution

Because we have extensive experience in managing disputes in relation to construction projects, acting as expert witnesses when requested to do so, all too often we have witnessed projects where the correct procedures in relation to Health and Safety were not followed. At best this is a commercial risk for a business, at worst it can cause catastrophic injury or even death for individuals.

By working with MMPH&S clients can have total confidence that the correct procedures are in place and any risks in relation to Health & Safety are completely minimised.

When we developed our Health & Safety platform, as an experienced PSDP, MMP was at the forefront of managing Health & Safety regulatory requirements effectively for clients and this innovative approach continues as we expand the service with each new piece of relevant legislation.

Our track record in terms of operating in a PSDP role is probably second to none – we’d be delighted to share client references if you are interested in working with us.
